Innovations Pick – Glasses-free 3D From Any Angle

In the current battle for 3D, we’ve got a couple different types of glasses as well as glasses-free technology. The current glasses-free technology only really works if you are looking straight at it and in the “sweet spot” zone, and even then it can be a strain on the eyes after a little while. A new technology out of the Engineering Human-Computer Interaction Research Group uses the iPad 2’s front-facing camera coupled with some software to track the user’s head in order to display in glasses-free 3D from virtually any angle with minimal strain on the eyes.
